Anna Lee Burge Carreiro, age 82, of Cave City died Thursday May 20, 2021 at the Cave City Nursing Home in Cave City. She was born February 2, 1939 in Cave City, Arkansas to Ernest Neal and Anna Geneva Ford Burge. She married the love of her life, Joe Carreiro, August 16, 1959. She was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Cave City, baptized when she was 14. She was an active member of the Cave City community in many ways. She and Joe were owner/operators of Joe's Market in Cave City. She is also remembered working at Bill’s Dollar Store for several years. She served as the Sunday DJ at the local radio station. She loved genealogy and history, and contributed to two books of local history. She loved her church and helped begin a Children’s Chapel there, and served in that capacity for over 25 years. She was a friend and helper to many people in the community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Carreiro, Jr.; her parents, one daughter, Martha Faye Barrett, one brother, Thomas Neal Burge, and one granddaughter Andrea Carreiro.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jody and Debbie Carreiro of Little Rock and Colonel Allan Abel and Racheal Carreiro of San Antonio, TX; one daughter, Jennifer Carreiro of Bono; and a son-in-law Paul Barrett of Batesville; two brothers, Justin Burge of Batesville and Paul Burge of Broken Arrow, OK; eight grandchildren, Jessica (Chris) Halbrook of Little Rock, Joshua (Gracie) Cook of Jonesboro, Emily Barrett of Ann Arbor, MI, Amanda Carreiro of Little Rock, Lindsey Barrett of Batesville, Jordan (Alex) Eanes of Jonesboro, Joe (Hannah) Carreiro III and Christian Carreiro both of San Antonio, TX; three great grandchildren, James Halbrook, Ellenor Eanes, and Jonah Cook; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Cave City. Burial will follow in the Palestine Cemetery in Cave City with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Visitation will be Monday, May 24, 2021 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the church.
Pallbearers will be Ron Simpson, Gary Perkey, Jonas Anderson, Kevin LeBeouf, Bobby Johnson, Billy Burge, Jack Sanders, Doug Brown and Terry Wooldridge.
