Brenda Kay Melton

Brenda Kay Melton, 71, of Strawberry passed away August 21, 2025 at Batesville. She was born June 23, 1954 at Batesville to Hue Dean and Virgie (Crabtree) Melton.

Brenda worked as a teacher and administrator for over 40 years in schools such as Timbo, Cave City, Poughkeepsie, Lynn, and Watson Chapel. The majority of her time was spent in the Watson Chapel School District. After retiring, she loved to travel. Her favorite travel buddy was Sherry Glenn. They traveled many places, but the Oak Ridge Boys concerts outnumbered all other trips they made. Brenda loved the Oak Ridge Boys. She loved being a member of the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, and would always help with food for any potluck. She also had the gift of hospitality. She welcomed people into her home and enjoyed preparing and taking meals to people, saying, “Well, it will just help them out a little”. She spent the rest of her time cross-stitching gifts for special occasions and talking to those she loved on the phone.

She was preceded in death by her parents; many aunts; uncles; cousins; her friend, Sherry Glenn and one of her favorite boys, Trevor Walling.

Survivors include many cousins. She particularly adopted Reggie, Miranda, and Lucas Walling as her own. She also leaves behind many great friends and travel buddies, and a wonderful church family.

Funeral services will be Sunday, August 24, 2025, 3:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church officiated by her “two favorite guys”, Reggie Walling and Lucas Walling.

Burial will follow in the Mt. View Cemetery.

Visitation will begin Sunday, August 24, 2025, 2:00 p.m. until service time at the church.

Pallbearers will be Brad Maxwell, Greg Crabtree, Gary Johnson, Kurt Meskimen, Randy Glenn, David Glenn, and Brent Glenn.
