Carol Lee Pedano Qualls, 81, of Batesville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 15, 2026, surrounded by her family. Born August 13, 1945, in Abingdon, PA, to Ralph William Pedano and Doris Jessie Adamson Pedano. She grew up in Texas and later Evening Shade with a strong work ethic and a deep love for her family and the Lord. After a brief time in Little Rock working as a beautician, she moved to Evening Shade and opened her own salon for many years. Carol was a great cook and served the Evening Shade School District for several years in the cafeteria. After a brief time at home, she became the manager and cook at the Hookrum Convenience Store in Evening Shade until moving to Batesville.
She was known for her outgoing personality and gentle spirit. She was a member of the North Heights Church of Christ.
Carol is survived by her grandson, Joshua Austin Harmon (Lisa) of Bethesda, AR; her sister, Debra Jo Shields (Bob) of Cape Coral, Florida; her brother-in-law, Bill Qualls (Sondra) of Evening Shade, AR; sisters-in-law, Ladene Bray (Jimmy) of Batesville, AR, and Sharon Qualls of Cave City, AR; in addition to several very special nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 54 years, Shelby Don Qualls; her daughter, Brenda Lee Harmon; her brother, Ralph William Pedano, Jr.; brother-in-law, Ronald Qualls; and special nephew, Donie Bray.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the North Heights Church of Christ, with Matthew Martin officiating. Burial will follow at the Evening Shade/Sharp Cemetery in Evening Shade.
Visitation will be from 12:30 PM until service time at the church.
Pallbearers will be Gary Thomas, Keith Davis, Josh McIntosh, David Branstetter, Rick Jones, and Jimmy Hubbards.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Shields, Cutter Harris, Cole Harris, Knox Allen, Elianna Allen, Amber Muston, Steve Harmon, Scott Harmon, and Allen Cole.
Carol always expressed her appreciation to her North Heights church family for prayers, cards, visits, and food; a very special thank you to Amber Muston for being there in some of her darkest moments with love, hugs, food, and comfort care, as well as the hospice care team. You were all wonderful.
Memorials may be made in her memory to the Evening Shade/Sharp Cemetery or the Children’s Home in Paragould, AR, in lieu of flowers.
