Douglas Monroe Shaw

August 16, 1935 — February 22, 2024

Batesville

Douglas Monroe Shaw, 88, of Batesville finished his earthly journey and went home to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 22, 2024.

Douglas was born August 16, 1935 in Mansfield, Louisiana to Luther Thomas Shaw and Violet Annis Childress Shaw.

Douglas met the love of his life, Shirley Ann Charping and they were married for 63 years before she left this earth on October 23, 2019.

Douglas loved everything outdoors.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman.  His dream job was working offshore on a boat.  He gave that job up when his first-born child came along and settled into becoming a licensed plumber and eventually an administrator for Saint Francis Hospital in Monroe, Louisiana until his retirement.  He was honored at his retirement for all of the construction, additions, maintenance and oversite calling it the “House that Shaw built.”

Douglas loved passing on his hunting skills and adventures with grandsons and they all have fond memories of hunting with Papaw in the bottoms!

Douglas and Shirley both loved “antiquing” and together attended many auctions.  He was a collector of “all things” and passed those collections on to his family.

Douglas loved his family and took pride in all the years he had with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley Ann Charping Shaw; a daughter, Melissa Ann Shaw Chapman; two brothers, Bernerd Shaw, Luther Thomas Shaw, Jr; and two sisters, Goldie Shaw Frazier and Pauline Shaw Olive.

Survivors include two daughters, Renee Shaw Martin (Dennis) of Batesville, Sharon Shaw Redding Paslay (Elvis) of Floral; ten grandchildren, Alisha Clark (Justin), Jason Redding (Jen), Jeremy Redding (Beth), Shane Martin (Jennie), Sarah Jones, Katie Wiley, Jocelyn Martin, Kristen Martin, Nina Green (Jimmy) and Elvis Wayne Paslay II (Amber).  He is also survived by fourteen great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
