Jo H. Canada, 89 of Batesville passed away Monday, March 29, 2021. She was born December 20, 1931 near Francis, Oklahoma to Andrew and Ruby Patterson Large. She attended school at Cedar Grove, Byng and Francis, Oklahoma. She graduated from school in Francis, Oklahoma and then attended Draughon Business School for computer training. She was a member of Foothills Cowboy Church.
She married Fred Canada on June 19, 1948 in Ada, Oklahoma. She lived in Francis and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma until 1978 and moved to Batesville in October of 1978. She worked in computers at the Federal Aviation Agency from the early 60’s until moving to Arkansas. While at FAA, she helped set up pilot medical certification and receive an outstanding performance award for her work. After moving to Batesville, she worked at Citizens Bank, Bank of Cave City and White River Medical Center before retiring in 1992. She later worked at First United Methodist Church in the Mom’s Day Out Program with toddlers. She loved this work and all the little ones.
She loved animals and her dogs were her treasure. Several will be waiting to join her at the Rainbow Bridge. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, traveling, camping and she loved to dance. She said she planned to dance all the way to Heaven.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred Canada; daughter, Linda Jo Stingley; sister, Ruby Mae Smith and grandson, Christopher Shouse.
Survivors include son, Larry Fred Canada of Tulsa, Oklahoma; brother, Farrell Large of Lawton, Oklahoma; sisters, Peggy Harris and Nancy Floyd of Ada, Oklahoma; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cave Creek Cemetery at Batesville with J.R. Smith officiating. Arrangements are by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Visitation will be Friday, April 2, 2021 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
