Leone Penn English

August 25, 1920 — June 21, 2021

Leone Penn English, long term resident of North Little Rock, died on Monday, June 21, 2021 at the age of 100.  She was the daughter of the late William F. and Hettie Cole Penn of Lawrence County, AR.  Leone was a highly respected educator with thirty-seven years of experience as a classroom teacher and a media specialist, twenty of which were in the North Little Rock School District.  She was a member of the Church of Christ for most of her life.

Leone is survived by her only child, Sharon English Van Pelt of Bentonville; three grandchildren, Stephanie Hicks of  Longview, Texas, Heidi Hodge (Gary) and Alex Van Pelt (Amy) both of Bentonville; four great-grandchildren, Jackson and Harrison Hodge and Emma and Elizabeth Van Pelt, all of Bentonville.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond E. English, her parents, one sister, and four brothers.

The family would like to express appreciation for the excellent home care provided by the nurses and staff of Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville, and a special thanks to Dr. Kimberly Chapman, her primary care physician, whose personal care these past two years has been above and beyond the call of duty.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Qualls Funeral Home Chapel, in Cave City, Arkansas, with Leon Barnes officiating.   Interment will be at Old Lebanon Cemetery, in Eaton, Arkansas.       

Pallbearers will be Alex Van Pelt, Jackson Hodge, Kyle Williams, J.B. Penn, Gary Hodge and Harrison Hodge.

Honorary pallbearers are Max Baker, James Penn, Gene Selk, Charlie Norman, Terry Penn, Lavern Penn and Jimmy Rex Williams.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Children’s Homes, Inc. 5515 Walcott Rd Paragould, AR, 72450-3319, or to the charity of your choice.
