Stephen Clay Masner was born on March 9, 1951 in Searcy, Arkansas, the second born son of Charles William and Ella Clotene Masner. He died on May 23, 2026 in the Philippines. The cause of death was a heart attack.
Stephen, he went by Steve, moved with his parents, and his brother, Charles, and then later with his brother Edward, to various towns in Arkansas and Kansas. In 1958, he moved with the family to Anthony, Kansas, where his brother Jeffrey was born in 1963. In 1969, Steve graduated from Anthony High School. He graduated academically third in his class.
In high school Steve participated in wrestling and band. He played the trombone. He was a fan of Elvis and the Beatles, and he could do a mean impersonation of Muhammad Ali. Steve was well liked. He made friends, not enemies.
After Steve graduated from Anthony High School in 1969, he attended Emporia State University. He graduated on May 11, 1973, with a Bachelor of Science in Education, with a concentration in English. He also completed three years of graduate work, and taught for a brief period of time. However, he subsequently went to work in the family business, The Citizens National Bank and Trust Company of Anthony, Kansas. Steve put his knowledge of language to good use in becoming the Bank’s in house expert for computers, when the Bank transferred to computer record keeping. He was Assistant Cashier at the Bank when the Bank was sold in 2002. He subsequently worked for Kanza Bank, and then later once again worked in the new family business, Plains Investment Corporation. Steve was a member of Kiwanis, and the First Baptist Church of Anthony, Kansas, where he served as a Deacon. He also served as a member of the Anthony, Kansas High School Alumni Board.
On April 30, 1982, Steve married Miriam Copiado. To that marriage a son, Alan Daniel, was born on December 27, 1983.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Miriam, and son Alan, and his grandchildren, Nathan Alan, Alan Daniel, Jr., and Elijah, and by his brothers, Charles, Edward, and Jeffrey.
Steve was proud to be a husband, and a father, and a grandfather. He was a family man, and a man of faith. He loved his family. May his memory be a blessing to all of those who loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
