Velma Jean Wood, 83, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Velma was born in Pleasant Plains to Jess and Wilma Beaver on September 4, 1941.
Velma was a member of Maple Springs Missionary Baptist Church. Velma looked forward to going to church every time the doors were opened and especially loved listening to her favorite gospel music. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, cross-stitching, and gardening, and most of all being "Nanaw" to her grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; brothers, Dale Beaver and Burnace Beaver; sister, Thelma Warren; nephews, Travis Beaver and Danny Beaver and son-in-law, Gary Gleaves.
She is survived by her daughters, Sherry Wood and Rhonda Gleaves; as well as her grandchildren, Sara (Rickie) Westbrook, Andy (Kayla) Martin, Matt (Danae) Martin, Amy Vaughn, and Meagan (Shannon) Fennell, along with 15 great-grandchildren, Logan, Hudson, Reeci, Tylen, Raelynn, Millie, Tessie, Josie, Gracie, Elsie, Jayden, Madilyn, Sawyer, Bristol, Lee, and one great-great granddaughter, Haisley.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at Maple Springs Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Curt Howard, Bro. Shannon Fennell and Bro. Verlon Wood officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Grove Cemetery in Pleasant Plains with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Homes.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 30, 2025, 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
Pallbearers will be Rickie Westbrook, Shannon Fennell, Andy Martin, Matt Martin, Logan Westbrook, Lee Beel, Jayden Lindsey, Tylen Tarrants, Sawyer Fennell and Hudson Westbrook.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Ron Bates and Randy Reichardt.
